Woodland resident and volunteer Dorothy Murphy will host a community-wide rummage sale on Oct. 24-26 to benefit Meals on Wheels Yolo County. The event will take place 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. at 530 5th Street in Woodland, weather permitting.
“Meals on Wheels is close to my heart, as I volunteer bringing meals to seniors in our community and I see what this service means to them,” Murphy said. “Not everyone can afford to make a big donation, so I thought a rummage sale was a great way to give the community a chance to gather and raise funds for this important group while having fun shopping for treasures together.”
All proceeds will benefit the local nonprofit that provides prepared meals for more than 1,200 Yolo County seniors in need each day.
“I am proud of the commitment and dedication of our board, staff and volunteers in serving food insecure seniors in our community,” said Bridget Levich, board chair, Meals on Wheels Yolo County. “It is especially gratifying when a volunteer seizes an opportunity to fund this important work.”
Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, Meals on Wheels Yolo County has served local seniors in need of nutritional support since the 1970s, first as part of a St. John’s United Church of Christ program in Woodland, and later as a nonprofit serving the whole county. The nonprofit is the only organization in Yolo County providing dependable, freshly prepared, ready-to-eat meals for seniors who are unable to travel to a grocery store or other food access locations, and/or are physically unable to prepare their own food and do not have family or a caregiver to assist.
