Be Baby’s First Santa: Baby Basket Drive for Sacramento Life Center

Local residents are invited to be a baby’s first Santa as Sacramento Life Center holds its annual Baby Basket Drive for local women and teens spending the holidays preparing to become new moms in the coming year. The drive runs through Dec. 31 so the Sacramento Life Center can provide a basket of needed items to every patient who gives birth in 2019. Donations can be made online at www.saclife.org. Gifts can be made in any increment, but a donation of $50 buys one basket, which includes formula, diapers, newborn clothes, pacifiers and more.

“One of the most overwhelming feelings is learning that you’re pregnant and fearing you won’t have the resources to care for your vulnerable baby,” said Marie Leatherby, executive director, Sacramento Life Center. “Sometimes something as simple as a gift of diapers and newborn clothes can give expecting mothers the confidence that they have a support system to help raise their child. Gifts to our Baby Basket Drive give expecting mothers proof that they will always have a family here at the Sacramento Life Center and supporters out in the community rooting for their family.”

Sacramento Life Center Baby Basket Drive Raises Most Funds Ever

The Sacramento Life Center’s fourth annual Baby Basket Drive for new moms raised the most funds of all four years, totaling $13,746, which will buy 275 baskets in 2018. The drive is held each December to kickstart the 500 baby baskets needed so that every Sacramento Life Center patient who gives birth in the coming year can receive a basket of needed items, including formula, diapers, newborn clothes, pacifiers and more.  Last year’s drive raised $8,470, which bought 170 baskets.

Donations will be accepted throughout 2018 and can be made online at www.saclife.org by writing Baby Basket Drive in the message box on the donation page. Gifts can be made in any increment, but a donation of $50 buys one basket.

“We were thrilled at how many people stepped up to be a baby’s first Santa this holiday season by donating to our Baby Basket Drive,” said Marie Leatherby, executive director, Sacramento Life Center. “Many of our patients come in scared that they might be pregnant, and it’s our job to provide them with a warm, caring support system and resources that will sustain them long after the baby comes. Sacramento Life Center Raises $1M for New Medical Clinic

Sacramento Life Center exceeded its original goal of $750,000 by raising $1 million toward the purchase and renovation of its new medical clinic in the Arden area that serves low-income women and teens, particulary those who are pregnant. The capital campaign, which began in June 2016, raised funds to purchase and renovate the building, add two ultrasound rooms, a new patient bathroom, a main classroom and a baby needs closet. The move and renovations allow Sacramento Life Center to officially apply for accreditation from the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care.

“We are overwhelmed by the generosity of this community, as well as the clear understanding that these services are vital to the health of our community,” said Marie Leatherby, executive director, Sacramento Life Center. “Through our new clinic, we can double the number of patients we see so that all low-income women and teens in the Sacramento area will have access to the medical care they need and deserve, especially those who are pregnant with nowhere else to turn.”

More than 200 Tour Sacramento Life Center’s New Medical Clinic

More than 200 people toured Sacramento Life Center’s new medical clinic in the Arden area for low-income women and teens at an Open House that included free Leatherby’s ice cream, music, appetizers, wine and a ribbon cutting by Sacramento Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce.

“This much larger facility will allow the Sacramento Life Center to serve even more low-income, pregnant women and teens that need our services,” said Marie Leatherby, executive director, Sacramento Life Center. “We are thrilled to be able to expand the vital services we provide to this community.”

Sacramento Life Center Receives $5K from Sierra Sac Valley Medical Society Alliance

Sierra Sacramento Valley Medical Society Alliance has awarded a $5,000 grant to the Sacramento Life Center to fill 100 baby baskets for low-income new moms in the Sacramento area. Baskets are filled with needed items including formula, diapers, newborn clothes, pacifiers and more, and are given to every Sacramento Life Center patient after her baby is born.

“Low-income mothers face many hurdles after giving birth, often worrying that they won’t be able to afford basic items like diapers or formula,” said Marie Leatherby, executive director, Sacramento Life Center. “We are so grateful to the Sierra Sacramento Valley Medical Society Alliance for this grant that will support women, teens, and their partners, with the vital supplies they need—while also boosting their confidence.”

Local residents can enjoy free Leatherby’s ice cream while supplies last at an open house for the Sacramento Life Center’s new medical clinic for low-income women and teens on July 13 from 4:30-7 p.m. at 2316 Bell Executive Lane in Sacramento. The event will begin with a ribbon cutting and also will include music, appetizers, wine and tours of the new facility.
