Local residents are invited to dress up as their favorite superheroes and join Sacramento Life Center’s Heroes Walk for Life on May 20 at Maidu Park in Roseville from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The 2K and 5K walk and fun run will raise funds for free pregnancy services at the Sacramento Life Center, benefiting low-income pregnant women and teens. The family-friendly event will include a rally, toddler dash, bounce house, face painting, crafts, magic show, and capes and masks for kids. Registration is $30, but free for kids ages 12 and under. Sacramento Life Center’s Baby Basket Drive Raises Most Funds Ever

The Sacramento Life Center’s third annual Baby Basket Drive for new moms raised the most funds of all three years, totaling $8,470, which will buy 170 baskets in 2017. The drive is held each December to kickstart the 500 baby baskets needed so that every Sacramento Life Center patient who gives birth in the coming year can receive a basket of needed items, including formula, diapers, newborn clothes, pacifiers and more.

Donations will be accepted throughout 2017 and can be made online at www.saclife.org by writing Baby Basket Drive in the message box on the donation page. Gifts can be made in any increment, but a donation of $50 buys one basket.

“Many of our patients come in scared that they might be pregnant, and it’s our job to provide them with a warm, caring support system and resources that will sustain them long after the baby comes,” said Marie Leatherby, executive director, Sacramento Life Center. “We want to encourage women, teen girls and their partners that they are capable of caring for a child. These baskets give new parents a boost of confidence along with much needed supplies.”

Sacramento Life Center Receives $12.5K from American River Bank

American River Bank has awarded a $12,500 grant to Sacramento Life Center for the nonprofit’s Mobile Medical Clinics that provide free medical services to low-income pregnant women, including pregnancy tests, STD tests, ultrasounds, peer counseling, education and resource referrals.

“This grant from American River Bank will almost fully cover the costs of having one of our Mobile Medical Clinics on the road one day a week for a year,” said Marie Leatherby, executive director, Sacramento Life Center. “We are grateful to American River Bank for supporting low-income pregnant women in our community and understanding the importance of women receiving care in their own neighborhood so transportation isn’t a barrier.”

Sacramento Donates 126 Baby Baskets to Low-Income New Moms

Community members donated $6,300 in December to provide 126 local pregnant women with baby baskets, thanks to the Sacramento Life Center’s Baby Basket Drive. The baskets are filled with needed items including formula, diapers, newborn clothes, pacifiers and more, and are given to every Sacramento Life Center patient after her baby is born.

Last year’s drive raised $4,800 to provide 96 local pregnant women with baby baskets. The Sacramento Life Center expects to need 500 baby baskets for new moms in 2016 and accepts monetary donations and new items year-round. For more information, visit www.saclife.org.

“When pregnant patients come into the Sacramento Life Center, they’re looking for a resource – but we give them an entire support system,” said Marie Leatherby, executive director. “These baby baskets encourage women and teen girls and their partners that they’re capable of caring for a child. When a young woman is pregnant and not sure she can afford diapers, it gives her a boost of hope to receive diapers along with other needed items like clothes, pacifiers and more. This community has now given 126 women hope in 2016, and it’s only January.”

Trust Funds Incorporated in San Francisco has awarded a $15,000 grant to Sacramento Life Center for the nonprofit’s licensed medical clinics that provide free medical services to low-income pregnant women, including pregnancy tests, STD tests, ultrasounds, counseling for men and women, education and resource referrals.

“This grant from Trust Funds Incorporated makes a big difference, covering the costs of having one of our Mobile Medical Clinics on the road one day a week for a year,” said Marie Leatherby, executive director, Sacramento Life Center. “We are grateful to this wonderful company for supporting low-income pregnant women in our community with the care they need to become amazing moms.”
